The S-Elec Homes (also known as S-Elect), initially opened in 1962, is a 60-unit community built for retirees of the Electricians Union in Duluth. Center City Housing acquired the building in late 2023. The building has retained many original fixtures and features from the initial build process. This project will be to do much-needed updates to the mechanical systems, building envelope, and community spaces. The building features all-electric heating and appliances, allowing the renovation to lean into energy-efficient updates throughout.
Minnesota Housing provided significant funding through its Community Stabilization: Naturally Occurring Affordable Housing – Multifamily Rental Housing Program. Center City Housing is currently working with Minnesota Housing and development partners to close on the funding and start renovations sometime in early 2027.
